 Prattville 43, Bob Jones 31 Final | Friday - October 29, 2021 | Non-Region Game

MADISON, Alabama -- Prattville had an offensive, defensive and special team score as the Lions knock off Bob Jones 43-31 in a non-region game at Madison City Stadium on Friday night. In a light rain during the game, wide receiver Kam Shanks set the single season Prattville receiving yards and reception record in this game.

Both teams are going into the 2021 Class 7A playoffs next week and Prattville is hoping to spring board off a tough non-region schedule to help them in the playoffs. Prattville had to face Hoover, Bob Jones and Wetumpka in non-region games. All three teams are in the playoffs along with games with Central-Phenix City, Auburn and Enterprise. "We fought through some adversity tonight," said Lions head coach J.B. Wallace. "We had to play the next play, keep fighting and we did that. We treated this week like a playoff game. We have a similar opponent next week."

Prattville scored first in the game on a special teams play. A bad snap on a punt by Bob Jones was picked up by Jack Studdard and he raced into the end zone for the first score of the game. With the touchdown, Prattville led 7-0 with 9:36 left in the first quarter. The Lions special teams made another big play on a punt block and setup an E.J. Ousley to Kam Shanks on a 29-yard touchdown pass play. The extra point was missed but the Lions led 13-0. "We started off a little slow in the first half," said Lions QB Ousley. "I think we did a better job with the offense in the third quarter. We thought we could move the ball in the air due to them playing man defense on the outside."

Bob Jones came back right back when Patriots quarterback RayShawn Hardy ran for a huge 45-yard run deep inside Lions territory. With 6:00 left in the first quarter, Hardy scores on a 4-yard touchdown run. With the score, Prattville led 13-7. With 9:13 left in the second quarter, Hardy scored again on a 4-yard touchdown run. With the score, the Patriots took a 14-13 lead.

Prattville came right back with a drive of their own. With 4:29 left in the half, Collin Rogers kicked a 35-yard field goal and the Lions took back the lead at 16-14. Bob Jones made a drive right before halftime, but Lions defensive back Jadarin Powell picked off a Patriots pass in the end zone and Prattville still led 16-14 at the half.

Prattville came out of the locker room in the second half and made a big drive for a score. Mario Parks scored on a 5-yard touchdown run for the Lions. With the score, Prattville led 23-14. Parks made a big third down conversion on a screen play that put the ball deep into Patriots territory. With 8:12 left in the third quarter, the Lions defense gets a score. With Bob Jones backed up on their own side of the field, the Patriots fumbled on the play and linebacker Jadarious Fitts scooped and scored for Prattville. With the touchdown, the Lions led 29-14.

Bob Jones kept fighting the whole game on offense. On a third down play, Hardy connected to Quenton Hubbard on an 83-yard touchdown pass play for the Patriots. With the score, Bob Jones still trailed 29-21 but cut the lead to one score with 7:18 left in the third quarter. With only :34 seconds left of the third quarter, Joseph Wheat kicked a 37-yard field goal to cut into the Lions lead again. With the score, Prattville led 29-24.

With 6:30 left in the fourth quarter, Parks scored on a 3-yard touchdown run and Prattville led 43-24. With 4:11 left in the game, defensive back Laderious Fitts picked off a Patriots pass late in the game. Bob Jones scored the last touchdown of the game with only :22 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, when Hardy broke free on a 16-yard touchdown run. With the score, Prattville led 43-31.

For Prattville, Ousley completed 9-of-16 passing for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Parks had 54 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns. Shanks had six receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Shanks set the Prattville single season records in receptions and yards. His 53 receptions and 1,077 receiving yards are Lions records. He needs three more touchdowns to tie that mark from Seth Knotts in 2014. Linebacker Eric Benson had 11 tackles, two TFL and two sacks along with an interception.

For Bob Jones, Terrance Salter had 30 carries for 167 yards on the night. K.J. Fields had six receptions for 95 yards. Linebacker Rowan Jones had 11 tackles and a PBU. D.J. Davenport had seven tackles, one TFL and one PBU.

Up next in the first round of the 2021 Class 7A playoffs, Prattville will travel to Theodore while Bob Jones will host Hewitt-Trussville on Friday night.
