MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- With Lee-Montgomery leading by only nine points at the half, the General defense forced three second half turnovers that kicked the Generals offense into gear as Lee-Montgomery goes on and defeats Carver-Montgomery 50-20 Thursday night at the Cramton Bowl. Carver-Montgomery led 14-6 early in the first quarter, but ran out of gas in the second half as Lee-Montgomery outscored Carver-Montgomery 42-6 the rest of the game.

The Lee-Montgomery (4-1, 2-0) offense is playing well through the first five games of the season and look to keep it going in the second half of the schedule. "We knew that the Carver defense would play well along with their special teams that were phenomenal tonight," said Generals Head coach Tyrone Rodgers. "Coming back in the second half we made some defensive adjustments and forced those turnovers that was big for our team." 

Lee-Montgomery scored first in the game when Tedarrian Murray scored on a 2-yard run up the middle, but the extra point was missed and the Generals led 6-0. With 7:20 left in the first quarter, Carver-Montgomery came right back and scored on a Willie Smith to Terrance Webster 10-yard touchdown pass in the middle of the field. With the extra point, the Wolverines took a 7-6 lead.

With 5:47 left in the first quarter, Carver-Montgomery scored on a block punt. De'Marquis Russell blew through the line and blocked the punt, scooped up the ball and scored the touchdown. With the score, the Wolverines took back the lead and led 14-6 midway through the first quarter. With 2:04 left in the first quarter, the Generals drove down the field and Justin Lott kicked a 26-yard field goal and Lee-Montgomery trimmed the Carver-Montgomery lead to 14-9 late in the first quarter.

The game took a chance for good when Lee-Montgomery took the lead for good with :32 seconds left in the first quarter when Kaniaus Johnson hit Kevontae Ruggs on a 75-yard touchdown play and Ruggs took the short pass and took it to the end zone. With the touchdown, Lee-Montgomery led 16-14 and led through out the rest of the game.

With 5:39 left in the half, Johnson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run on a fourth down and one play. With the score, Lee-Montgomery led 23-14 midway through the second quarter. With :45 seconds left till halftime, Murray scored on a 20-yard touchdown run in the middle of the field. With Murry scoring his second touchdown of the game, the Generals led 29-14. Carver-Montgomery had a huge kick return and two plays later, the Wolverines scored on a Smith 4-yard touchdown run. With the score, Carver-Montgomery cut the Lee-Montgomery lead to 29-20 at the half.

In the second half, the Generals turned up the heat on the Wolverines offense and turned three second half turnovers. With 6:26 left in the third quarter and Carver-Montgomery driving, Christopher Ware caught a Wolverines fumble in the air and returned it 76-yards for a Generals touchdown. With the score, Lee-Montgomery led 36-20. 

With 2:00 minutes left in the third quarter, Claderius Pickett scored on a 20-yard touchdown run around left end and the Generals led 43-20 late in the third quarter. With 10:18 left in the game, Johnson scored again on a 32-yard touchdown run and the Generals went on to lead 50-20 early in the fourth quarter. 

Johnson is playing his first year as quarterback for the Generals and is playing very well since the first week of the season. "Kaniaus was just 10 days removed from receiver before our first football game," added Rodgers. "Sometimes when you lose like that you can make adjustments since our first game but I'm really proud of our team the way they have responded since that first game." Johnson finished the game as he completed 7-of-12 passing for 222 yards and a touchdown with 175 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.

Kevontea Ruggs had 148 yards on five catches and a touchdown. Jefferey Smith had a 50-yard receptions and Shonderick Nelson had a 24-yard reception for the Generals. In all Lee-Montgomery had 568 yards of total offense against a good Carver-Montgomery defense.

For Carver-Montgomery, Terrance Webster had 191 total yards on offense along with a kick return that was called back after a block behind the play. Anthony Willis had 60 yards on 13 carries for the Wolverines.
