RB #2 Armoni Goodwin (Hewitt-Trussville) scores on one of his three touchdowns on the night

MADISON, Alabama -- The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies used all three phases of the game to defeat James Clemens 55-12 in the Class 7A first round playoff game at Madison City Schools Stadium on Friday night. The Huskies used a big second quarter where they scored three touchdowns on the night to get the first round win.

Senior running back Armoni Goodwin rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Hewitt-Trussville offense. "We came into this game feeling good having a week off and getting ourselves ready to play tonight," said Huskies RB Goodwin. "After our last game, my knee was hurting and so therapy really helped me with the off week. It is getting better now. We have Thompson next week so this will be a big week of practice. We need to keep working."

Hewitt-Trussville (9-2) scored first in the game when Cade Ott Carruth hit a hide open Sean Jackson on a 59-yard touchdown pass play for the Huskies. With the score, Hewitt-Trussville led 7-0 with 4:49 left in the first quarter. With 9:06 left in the second quarter, Armoni Goodwin raced 45-yards for a touchdown and the Huskies led 14-0. With 4:20 left in the half, Goodwin scored on an 8-yard touchdown run and the Huskies led 21-0.

After a three and out by James Clemens, Trey Washington fielded a punt and raced over 50 yards for a touchdown and the Huskies lead went to 28-0 with 2:24 left in the half. "We scored on those three or four play drives that got us going in the second quarter," said Huskies Head coach Josh Floyd. "The killer was the punt return by Trey Washington. I thought that was the game changer."

With 1:00 left in the half, a Connor Thomas run of 51-yards to the end zone gave the Huskies a 35-0 lead. "I thought we played a complete game on all sides of the ball," added Floyd. "Our defense did a really nice job for most of the game."

On the second play of the second half, Goodwin scored again on a 76-yard touchdown run. The Huskies led 42-0 with 11:08 left in the third quarter. WIth 9:53 left in the third quarter, the Huskies blocked a punt and Hunter Jones scooped the ball up and raced in the for the score. Hewitt-Trussville led 49-0. With 3:39 left in the third quarter, Jack Ollis scored on a 15-yard touchdown run. With the touchdown, Hewitt-Trussville led 55-0. "Were playing good football right now," said Huskies linebacker Bam White. "We sticking together as a team, working hard. We have a great defensive team. We have cleaned up our mistakes so were playing good football right now."

James Clemens scored the last two touchdowns of the game. The first one on a Manny Sanders 1-yard touchdown run and the second TD on a Connor Cantrell to Sanders touchdown pass play for a final of 55-12.
