 Clay-Chalkville 62, Ramsay 7 Final | Thursday - August 29, 2024 | Non Region Game

RB #11 Josh Woods (Clay-Chalkville) scored on a touchdown run against Ramsay at Legion Field tonight.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Aaron Ousley scored three first-quarter touchdowns, and Josh Woods scored three touchdowns as the (6A) Clay-Chalkville Cougars defeated 5A Ramsay 62-7 at Legion Field on Thursday night. Quarterback Aaron Frye threw four touchdowns, and the Cougars offense rolled for much of the night.

With over 500 total yards for the Cougars, first-year starter Frye played well in a road start. "I thought Aaron played really well and took care of the ball," said Cougars head coach Stuart Floyd. He made a lot of big third-down conversions for us. I've been telling people that he will be the next one. That is my job to put him into good situations. Super kid, smart, everybody played a little better around him tonight."

Clay-Chalkville (2-0) scored first in the game. With 11:02 left in the first quarter, Osley scored on a 52-yard pass play from Frye, and the Cougars took the early 7-0 lead. Ramsay (0-2) responded when Kameron Keenan hit Shiye Rice on a short pass and turned it into a 42-yard touchdown for the Rams, and the game was tied 7-7. With 5:18 left in the first quarter, Osley busted up the middle and scored on an 11-yard touchdown run, and the Cougars took the 14-7 lead and never looked back.

With 1:56 left in the first half, Osley scored on a 4-yard touchdown run on a direct snap, his third touchdown in the quarter. With that score, Clay-Chalkville led 21-7. With 5:33 left in the second quarter, Woods scored on a 4-yard touchdown run, and the Cougars took a 28-7 lead. A Deon Callins interception gave the ball right back to the Cougars, and with 5:15 left in the second quarter, Frye hit Marlon Compton over the middle of the field for a 33-yard touchdown pass play, and the Cougars led 35-7. "He is like a speed back, alusive back, and I'm like a power back," said Cougars RB Woods. "We had a lot of discipline and executed as a team tonight," said Cougars RB Ousley. "We had great attention to detail and good practices all week. When Josh does well, I clap it up for him."

With only 24 seconds left until halftime, Woods scored around the right end for a 7-yard touchdown run, and the route was on. Clay-Chalkville took a 41-7 halftime lead, but the Cougars came right back after halftime, got the kick, and scored again. With 11:15 in the third quarter, Frye found Jabari Staples on a 52-yard touchdown pass, and the Cougars led 48-7.
With 5:35 left in the third quarter, Frye to Compton connection worked again for a Cougars five-yard touchdown pass play, and Clay-Chalkville led 55-7. With only 35 seconds left in the third quarter, Woods scored on a 53-yard touchdown run. With Ramsay driving late in the game, defensive back Josh Ivy picked off a Rams pass in the end zone to finish the Cougar's convincing win over Ramsay.

Frye finished 16-of-21 for 317 yards and four touchdowns. "I thought we played with a lot of heart," said Cougars QB Frye. "We played with a lot of intensity, and our coaches prepared us well for this game, and we just went out there and executed like they told us."

Next, Clay-Chalkville will travel to Pell City to take on the Panthers for a region game.
