VESTAVIA HILLS -- The Vestavia Hills Rebels came back from an early deficit to get a 4-2 win over Bob Jones in the Red and Blue Classic Softball Tournament on Friday night. With the Rebels down 2-0 after the first inning, Vestavia Hills scored a run in the second inning and three runs in the third to turn the game around for the Rebels.

"Tait (Davidson) did a great job on the mound in our first game against West Limestone," said Rebels head coach John Simmons. "We played really good defense behind Tait and her 16 strikeouts. We couldn't get that timely hit. This was a different game when we got those timely hits, and we were happy to win."

Bob Jones (0-1) scored first in the game when A.J. Vineski hit a pop fly and reached on an error in the infield. Layna Sewell scores, and the Patriots take a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Patriots scored again on a throwing error, and Natalia Kenyatta scored while Bob Jones took a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Laura Beard hit a solo home run to center field to cut the Patriots lead to 2-1. Vestavia Hills took the lead for good in the top of the third inning when Lucy Spisto scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Evelyn Splawn. Later in the inning, Splawn scored on a passed ball for the Rebels to take the lead at 3-2 and added another run on an Elizabeth Bragan grounds out but scored Hannah Walker on the play, and Vestavia Hills took the 4-2 lead.

Elizabeth Yother was the winning pitcher for the Rebels, going five innings, giving up only five hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts. Patriots starting pitcher Vineski pitched five innings with four hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts.
