HOOVER, Alabama — Prattville walked out of Hoover Metropolitan Stadium with a 30-29 win Friday night that immediately ranks among the signature results of the 2026 season. The Lions moved to 4-0 and 2-0 in Class 6A Region 3. Hoover dropped to 2-2 and 0-2 in region play. Both teams played their hearts out and had huge plays throughout the game.
Prattville had a big lead early, and Hoover responded to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. With Prattville needing a touchdown, the Lions drove 81 yards late in the game to get the big road win. The last time Prattville defeated Hoover was in 2011.
"You can't have a great victory in life without overcoming some type of diversity," said Lions head coach Bobby Carr. "Our kids just found a way to keep fighting. That is what we talked about. Life is about getting back up when you get knocked down. We all saw that; our kids have a lot of fight in them. We were the last one standing tonight."
The Lions struck first with an 18-yard field goal by kicker Bryson Francis with 1:28 left in the first quarter for a 3-0 Lions lead. Special teams delivered the first big swing. Early in the second quarter, Christian Alexander fielded a punt and raced 72 yards for a touchdown at the 10:13 mark in the second quarter, making it 10-0 Lions. McKay followed with a 37-yard touchdown pass to CJ Brown at 5:42 left in the second quarter, stretching the lead to 17-0. With that lead, it looked like the Lions were going to walk away with the easy win, but Hoover had different ideas.
Hoover finally answered when Jordan Williams scored on a 4-yard touchdown run up the middle on a fourth-down play with 1:51 left in the half. Prattville took a 17-7 lead into the locker room after a late big play. Deshawn Hall took a short pass and took it 80 yards for a score, but a penalty wiped out the play.
The third quarter stayed tight. Prattville added a Francis 28-yard field goal at 7:55 to go up 20-7. Then came the first of two massive Hoover scores. The Bucs answered with a 22-yard touchdown run by Jordan Ward at 3:49 left in the third quarter, cutting it to a 20-14 Lions lead. DJ Waluyn intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown at 3:12 left in the third quarter, giving the Bucs their first lead at 21-20 and giving Hoover all the momentum in the game.
Prattville responded in the fourth. Another Francis 28-yard field goal at 9:37 left in the fourth quarter put the Lions back ahead 23-21. Hoover wasted little time reclaiming the lead. Williams broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run at 7:27 left in the game. The two-point conversion was good, and Hoover led 29-23.
Prattville was forced to punt after an incomplete third-down pass with 6:16 remaining. The Lions got the ball back late and put together the drive that decided the night. With 14 seconds left, McKay found Hall for the winning touchdown. The extra point made it 30-29. "I give all glory to God," said Prattville WR Hall. "I thank my teammates for believing in me and getting me that ball. I was glad to be able to come through for my guys."
Prattville’s defense then sacked Hoover on the final play. What a football classic between these two heavyweight teams.
Hall, an Auburn commitment, finished the game with 10 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown. Prattville kicker Francis had three field goals and three extra points, including the game-winning extra point.
Hoover DB Jordan Williams led the Bucs with 71 yards on 7 carries and two touchdowns with four tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.
Prattville now prepares for Hewitt-Trussville. Hoover hosts Oak Mountain. For one night, the story stayed on a single-point finish captured from the first field goal to a Hall last-second touchdown reception. The Lions left 4-0. The Bucs left knowing how thin the margin is in this region. One point. Fourteen seconds. A region win that felt like a statement.
